biography

I grew up in The Blue Mountains climbing trees, catching reptiles, camping, exploring, rock-climbing, canyoning and mountain bike riding. From a young age I was captivated by its beauty, adventure, wildness and the endless discovery of both flora and fauna. I lived in Darwin for 14 years and have recently returned ‘home’ with my wife and three adventurous kids where I get to introduce them to the many wonders the Mountains has to reveal. I have been sculpting for over 25 years and in Darwin, worked full time as a sculpture artist. I have had experience in public sculpture installations working with Schools, Universities, business, local government, galleries and various residencies. I have worked closely with architects, builders, engineers, business owners and local government in the production of many public sculpture installations within Darwin. I have exhibited my work in a number of solo and group exhibitions. My Art practice is predominately working with wood and metal inspired by natural forms exploring themes of hope, inheritance, restoration and renewal.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
