biography

Anne Edwards lives and works in Katoomba and has had pottery studios in Australia, Japan, Brazil and Germany. Her work focuses on form, and so decoration is kept to simple, handmade glazes. Each pot is a meditation, formed by using the breath to find a still point amid the motion of the pottery wheel. Her pots are functional, and designed to bring pleasure to every day moments. Pots can be purchased from her studio in Katoomba. Anne is finishing up her lecturing career to focus on her combined passions of pottery and teaching people to breathe effectively, combining the two in a breath/pottery workshop. After teaching yoga for 20 years, Anne focuses on teaching people effective breathing techniques through simple movements, and then takes them up to her pottery studio to learn to make a pot on the wheel using these breathing techniques. The workshop is for 2 people for 3 hrs and light refreshments are included. If participants would like to keep the pot they make as a reminder of their still, meditative state, Anne will glaze and fire the pot and return it to the maker.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
