Mushroom Day Trip

project description

The beauty and bountifulness of Nature never disappoints. The mushrooming season in the Blue Mountains provides a wonderful excuse to get outdoors and reconnect in an intimate way back to basics. As we walk through the forest, on the hunt for wild mushrooms, the return is much more than a basket full of fungi. It's focusing all of our senses, not just our eyes, on the beauty all around us. It's standing amongst the tall pines above us. It's tuning into the silence and soaking it up into our bones. It's calling out each others' names occasionally to check no one has strayed too far. And at the end of our time there, it's the well earned delicious lunch that we provide for you. Some lucky groups are privileged to taste our homemade wine! Participants go home with knowledge and skills on what to look for when foraging for mushrooms, how to clean, cook and preserve them, as well as what they find in the forest. A truly wonderful day trip, where even the vista-filled drive is enjoyable.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
